Walter has developed a thread milling system that combines the advantages of thread milling with the speed of tapping. By designing the T2711/T2712 tools to allow machining multiple thread sections at the same time, these tools deliver machining times similar to tapping or thread forming. By using indexable inserts, cost advantages are significant and provide excellent chip control.

Testing in crankshaft threading showed these indexable thread mills reduced costs by over 60 percent. The tools are designed for machining threads larger than one inch diameter, and thread depths up to 2.5 times the nominal diameter.  The pitch range is from 8 to 18 threads per inch in both UNC and UNF thread styles.
