Job Roles Must Shift on the Shop Floor

As new generations enter the manufacturing workforce, are the skills and career paths changing? Workforce development specialists think so. One specialist from Tooling U-SME who we recently interviewed, Denise Ball, says current and up-and-coming generations very much liken their career paths to video gaming, where you have to master a level to move on. And they want to advance faster than you’d expect.

Manufacturers are having to adapt. Today’s workforce wants options—and wants a career development path that has a variety of potential ways to branch off and grow. They aren’t planning on working for the same company for 30 years.

How do you see this playing out? Is your shop adjusting? How do your career paths differ?
