Davidson, North Carolina associates volunteered at Habitat for Humanity in May, helping with a variety of tasks, such as building a shed and installing kitchen cabinets, bath fixtures, window treatments and closet shelving.
Associates from our Melville, New York, and Davidson, North Carolina, Customer Support Centers spent Earth Day volunteering with North Shore Land Alliance on Long Island and the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville, both focused on environmental conservation. Melville associates returned to the community garden they helped build last Earth Day, while Davidson volunteers helped dig a 200-foot long trench and install a water line for a new birdhouse.
Wood Dale, Illinois associates recently helped protect and restore the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, a 26,000-acre nature preserve. MSC associates helped remove invasive species such as honeysuckle and buckthorn that hinder the growth of native plants.
Hundreds of associates across MSC wore red and held activities during the National Heart Month "Go Red for Women" campaign to raise money and awareness about women's heart issues. Associates supported the American Heart Association through an online fundraising campaign.
A small team of MSC associates assisted disabled residents of the Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH) with their exercise routines.
MSC associates installed a wheelchair ramp at the home of an 83-year-old veteran in the Charlotte, N.C. area. MSC partnered with Purple Heart Homes, an organization that builds and renovates homes for veterans with combat-related challenges.
MSC honored its nonprofit partners at its Breakfast of Champions in Melville, New York, and Davidson, North Carolina. This annual event celebrates the important role nonprofit groups make in our communities, recognizes the spirit of volunteerism, and highlights the role of corporate-nonprofit partnerships in solving critical community issues.
MSC associates in Melville, New York and Davidson, North Carolina held their annual Holiday Giving Tree campaign, donating over 200 holiday gifts to children from financially challenged households, military veterans, and active-duty U.S. service members and their families.
The annual Make-A-Wish campaign in Melville, New York and Davidson, North Carolina raised approximately $17,700 to grant the wishes of four-year-old Addison, who wished to visit Walt Disney World, and 10-year-old Jayla, who wished to visit the San Diego Zoo (above with parents Kim and Frank at the MSC Breakfast of Champions.) MSC matched associate donations dollar for dollar.
Associates in Shelbyville, Kentucky partnered with Metro United Way and raised more than $4,200 to support over 100 nonprofit organizations in the local community. MSC associates in Shelbyville have supported Metro United Way for over 16 years.
MSC associates collected personal care items, candy and handwritten notes of thanks to members of the U.S. military. The effort was conducted in partnership with Operation Gratitude, an organization that ships approximately 250,000 care packages each year to military members, veterans, first responders and their families.
A 17-member MSC team helped build three homes in Mooresville, N.C. for Our Towns Habitat for Humanity. Our associates helped construct and frame walls, cut and install interior moldings, and build a shed.
MSC served as flagship sponsor of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach State Park on Long Island, New York. In addition to MSC's corporate sponsorship, our team of volunteers passed out pink ribbon items in exchange for a donation to the cause.
Our associates supported the Davidson Lands Conservancy's Run for the Green MSC was the presenting sponsor of the event for the sixth year. The organization's mission is to preserve open spaces in the Lake Norman area, near Charlotte, N.C.
MSC associates from the Melville, N.Y., and Davidson, N.C., CSCs continued the annual MSC tradition of observing the 9-11 anniversary with a day of service at local soup kitchens.
Dozens of associates in New York and North Carolina helped underprivileged students through school supply drives. In North Carolina, associates processed incoming donations for the Classroom Central Free Store, which donates supplies to teachers for students in nearly 200 high-poverty schools in the Carolinas. On Long Island, N.Y., associates collected school supplies for the United Way Stuff-A-Bus program, which supports underserved elementary schools.
Seven associates helped revitalize a learning center for Literacy Nassau in Wantagh, N.Y. by creating space to serve more individuals and adding a program focused on children. Literacy Nassau makes literacy services accessible to disadvantaged people of all ages.
