Select the Shape

Fluorescent lights are available in different shapes:

- U-Bent Fluorescent Light: Bent in a U-shape and ideal for compact spaces where linear lamps may not fit. Commonly used in offices, hospitals, and retail environments.

- Circular Fluorescent Light: Offers even illumination in decorative fixtures, such as ceiling lights or signs. Great for applications needing soft, diffuse light.

- Linear Fluorescent Light: The most common form of fluorescent lamps. Perfect for industrial settings and large spaces requiring uniform light distribution.

Select the Width

Lamp width affects how well the bulb fits into your fixture and its compatibility with ballasts. Ensure you measure your existing lamp or check your fixture specifications.

Select the Right Length

Understanding Lamp Shape Designations

The letter in a lamp designation indicates its shape, and the number represents the diameter in eighths of an inch.

For example:

T8 Lamp: Tubular shape with a diameter of 8 eighths (1 inch)
T12 Lamp: Tubular shape with a diameter of 12 eighths (1.5 inches)

This standardized system makes it easier to find compatible replacements.

Understand Color Temperature

Color temperature, measured in Kelvin (K), affects the appearance, ambiance, and practicality of a space. It is usually desirable to maintain a consistent color temperature throughout a space. Standard light sources range from 2700K (incandescent) to 6500K (daylight).

The base of a fluorescent light is cemented to each end of the lamp to connect the bulb to the electrical circuit. Selecting the correct base ensures proper installation and functionality.
