The maximum weight the hoist is designed to lift, as rated by the manufacturer. Be sure to account for the total load, including attachments like slings, grabs, and spreader beams.
Learn how lever hoists make lifting, stretching, and positioning loads easier for professionals in construction, utilities, farming, and more.
A lever-operated hoist, also known as a come along or puller, is used for stretching, pulling, tightening, or positioning loads. While commonly used in horizontal orientation, lever hoists can also be used for lifting in certain vertical applications.
The design is similar to that of a hand chain hoist, but instead of a hand chain, it uses a lever or handle. The user moves the lever back and forth to shift the load in small increments. Come alongs are not built for speed but for precise control. They are typically lighter and more portable than traditional hoists or winches.
The most used hoist chain due to its flexibility in all directions and ease of visual inspection for wear.
Typically more expensive than coil chain. It is harder to inspect and does not tolerate side pulls (i.e., when the pull is not aligned straight from hook to hook). However, unlike link chains, roller chains can be spliced if additional length or repairs are required.
Wire rope hoists are usually less expensive than chain units but offer lower lifting capacity. They are more prone to internal wear and abuse, and damaged strands can be difficult to detect as they often fray or break from the inside.
Common in the utility industry due to their non-conductive properties, strap hoists are ideal for electrical or high-voltage environments.
Lever-operated hoists, often referred to as come alongs, are widely used across industries such as construction, utilities, lumber, railroads, and mining. They are also popular for general use at home, on farms, and in workshops.
Typical applications include:
Positioning machinery
Installing fences
Holding or securing loads
Opening railroad car doors
Pulling pipe
Stretching wire
Straightening poles
CAUTION: This equipment is intended for industrial use only. Do not use it to lift, support, or transport people, or to suspend loads over people.
