New Walter DC160 X∙treme Evo Advance Solid Carbide Drill Achieves Superior Productivity and Accuracy
The latest addition to Walter’s X∙treme Evo product line, the DC160 Advance solid carbide drill, handles the widest array of materials and applications.
The latest addition to Walter’s X∙treme Evo product line, the DC160 Advance solid carbide drill, handles the widest array of materials and applications.
The DC160 X∙treme Evo Advance solid carbide universal drill from Walter features exceptional positioning accuracy. This is achieved with its innovative new thinner web at the point; rapid guidance in the hole due to the advanced positioning of the second margin; and high productivity in many different applications.
The DC160 X∙treme Evo achieves improved point geometry by using a deeper and larger chip gash at the drill point. This deeper chip gash combined with thinner web leads to less torque and feed force, which in turn leads to less “pushing” and easier chip evacuation and thus improves tool life.
The DC160 is a four-margin drill which provides improved stability in uneven entries and exits, as well as cross holes or interruptions. The design of these drills also moves the 2nd and 4th margins forward, allowing them to engage sooner into the cut. This improves the true positioning of the holes and boosts hole quality.
DC160 margins engage faster than the older X.treme drills
DC160 drills have an improved TiSiAlCrN/AlTiN multi-layer coating and are available in 3, 5, 8 and 12 × Dc. The new drills can be used with or without internal coolant depending on size. The whole range covers diameters: 3-20 mm, for 3, 8 and 12 × Dc along with 3-25 mm, for 5 × Dc. Imperial 1/8-3/4 inch nominal range for 3, 5, 8 and 12 x Dc is also available.
The DC160 can be used with all ISO material groups and in a wide variety of applications, such as inclined entries and exits, drilling holes close to the edge of the workpiece, or convex and concave surfaces. It can also be used with all of the major machine tool types, including both horizontal and vertical machining centers and in lathes. The new drill can be used with or without internal coolant.
The DC160 drills belong to the Advance lineup of products. This is one of the three categories of Walter solid carbide drills—Perform, Advance, Supreme.
The Perform tools are products that provide an economical solution with focused importance on price. DC150 drills are an example of the Perform line of products.
The Advance tools are products which are efficiently balanced between price and performance. DC160 drills are an example of the Advance line of products.
The Supreme designation indicates the highest level of technology and performance available. Typically, Supreme designation drills are ‘specialists’ for specific materials such as DC170 drills with their unique design for steels and cast irons.
