Witness the protective power of Tyvek® 400 SFR for yourself in this Thermo-Man® burn demonstration from DuPont Personal Protection.
In the video, two burn demonstrations are compared side-by-side. On the left, you see the standalone primary flame resistant (FR) coverall. On the right, you see a protective apparel ensemble featuring a Tyvek® 400 SFR coverall over top of a primary FR coverall. In both demonstrations, the thermal manikin is exposed to flame for three seconds in a fire engulfment scenario.
The video shows the Tyvek® 400 SFR garment quickly self-extinguishes after the flame source is removed, produces little to no after-flame, and does not melt or drip. This indicates that when worn as an ensemble over top of appropriate primary FR clothing, Tyvek® 400 SFR garments reduce the predicted total burn injury without negatively impacting the performance of primary FR coveralls.

You’re about to see a demonstration of the secondary flame resistance (SFR) of a Tyvek® 400 SFR garment ensemble using the DuPont™ Thermo-Man® thermal protection evaluation system equipped with 122 sensors.
Both of these thermal manikins are dressed in a commercial primary flame-resistant (FR) coverall made with DuPont Nomex®. On the right, a secondary flame-resistant garment made with Tyvek® 400 SFR is added to create an ensemble. The thermal manikins are exposed to flames for 3 seconds in a fire engulfment scenario.
As demonstrated, the secondary Tyvek® 400 SFR garment quickly self-extinguishes after the flame source is removed. It produces little to no after-flame and does not melt or drip.
This demonstration indicates that when worn as an ensemble over top of appropriate primary flame-resistant protective clothing, Tyvek® 400 SFR garments reduce the predicted total burn injury without negatively impacting the performance of primary FR coveralls like those made with DuPont Nomex®.
