Aluminum Alloys Technical Information
Alloy Type | Desc. |
2011 | Most widely used alloy for all types of screw machine parts and compares favorably withfree cutting brass. This is the most suitable alloy for machining automatic screwfeeds. Mechanical properties and hardness are excellent, corrosion resistance good. |
2024 | Excellent for making fasteners, fittings, wheels and parts. This high strength alloy is heattreatable, and has fair formability and workability. May be spot welded. |
3003 | A general purpose alloy with moderate strength and good workability. This non heattreatable alloy is easy to weld and has a high degree of corrosion resistance. |
5052 | Excellent salt water corrosion resistance and higher strength than alloy 3003. This nonheat treatable alloy has excellent finishing characteristics. Excellent weldability andworkability. Good for chemical and marine applications. |
6061 | Extremely versatile alloy. Has good formability and high corrosion resistance. This heattreatable alloy is excellent for making parts, fittings, chemical equipment, marineequipment and scaffolding. |
6063 | This heat treatable alloy has superior corrosion resistance and is good for outdoorapplications such as awning supports, architectural trim and window frames. |
7075 | Among the highest strength alloys available, used extensively in highly stressed partsand air frame structures with fair corrosion resistant properties. |
Aluminum alloys are developed by combining pure aluminum with othermetals such as iron, copper, magnesium, silicon, manganese and zinc. This mix creates alloys which are stronger than pure aluminum whileremaining lightweight and malleable. Aluminum alloys are electricallyand thermally conductive as well as corrosion resistant.
