Mechanical Cam Clutches Technical Information
Mechanical Cam Clutches are similar to one-way bearings. During operation, the clutch locks the inner or outer race through the wedging action of cams. The clutch transmits torque in one direction of rotation while overrunning in the opposite direction of rotation. Clutches perform three basic operations: overrunning, backstopping or indexing. When selecting the appropriate mechanical cam clutch, it is important to know the torque requirement and speed of the application.
