Hi. My name's Jim Shields. I'm the product manager for Fluke's Process Tools product line. Today, I'd like to talk to you about the Fluke 789 Process Meter. The Process Meter is a marriage between a traditional multimeter and a loop calibrator in one compact, professional tool.
The 789 Process Meter not only has the milliamp capabilities built in for doing instrumentation work, but the electrical capabilities of a traditional multimeter for working on high-energy circuits. And it carries a Category III 1,000 volt, CAT IV 600 volt safety rating, which you cannot find traditionally in a loop calibrator, and is unique to the 789 Process Meter. The functions of this Process Meter, the traditional multimeter functions are on the product in the white nomenclature here. But what sets it apart from a traditional multimeter is the milliamp signal source. The milliamp signal source is connected here. You have the ability to change the milliamp output from 4 to 20 mA, or you can change the mA signal in 25% steps, in smaller 0.1 mA steps, or for super fine-tuning, in one micro amp steps. The Process Meter has the ability to source milliamp signals, as we just noted here, and to simulate signals to drive signals back into the home run of the control system if you're testing out process control loops.
One additional function also for the loop calibrator is it has 24 volts of loop power that it can provide for powering a transmitter. So connect it to loop power. The Process Meter can power a transmitter while measuring the mA signal it draws as the pressure changes. So as I change the pressure, thus testing this transmitter offline, I can power it with the 789, measure the mA signals while changing the pressure and testing the device. The Process Meter is a unique tool for instrumentation and electrical, dual craft workers that work both instrumentation and electrical. For those that are working around instrumentation and are working with four to 20 mA, they can have the confidence to know that the tool has a category safety rating so they can measure high-energy circuits as well as test process instrumentation.
And that's the Fluke 789, the ideal tool for process instrumentation professionals.
